The Mosaic Chess Club team of Alex Dean and Arden Howland placed third in the K8 category at the 5th Annual Kohler Schools Chess Tournament on Saturday.
Arden, a seventh-grader at the charter school, also placed second as an individual in the K8 division. Arden’s teammate, Alex, is a seventh-grader as well.
Other Mosaic Chess Club members at the tournament included sixth-graders Keith Baka, Eric Yang, Cander Rosenthal and Nicole Fessler. They competed in the K6 division.
The Mosaic Chess Club will participate in the Acuity Charitable Foundation Chess Tournament this Saturday. Sixth-grade participants will include Donald "Nicholas" Carroll, Keith Baka, Drew Engberg, Nicole Fessler, Aeris Severson, Clayton Nichols, Cander Rosenthal, Eric Yang, Alexis Rowe and Marcus Ellair. Seventh-grade participants will include Kassie Brown, Jasmine Brown, Kade Byrand, John Rango, Alex Dean, Kevin Krentz and Jerome "J.J." Woods, Jr.
“Thanks to parent Nancy Engberg and the design talents of Troy Tousey, the students participating at Acuity will be sporting our new Mosaic Chess Club T-shirts,” said Mosaic visual arts teacher Stuart Howland, who directs the club.
The Mosaic Chess Club meets in the Art Room at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
