On Monday, August 28th, Étude High School and Middle School welcomed new parents for New Parent Orientation. The event started at 5:30pm, when advisors and families gathered in the cafeteria to enjoy seasonal soups made by our staff. Children were then invited to participate in MAKER Break, while parents got together to learn more about our Advisory program and the role of Advisors as someone who is, to students, "on their case, and on their side."
Parents had an opportunity to review the High School Communication Overview and Middle School Communication Overview, and they heard about our new Mission and Credo from Principal, Ted Hamm. To close, our Dean of Culture, Mike Q. Hanlon, lead parents in an arts-infused reflection on Habits of Professionalism, where parents were challenged to interpret one of their strengths through a paper sculpture. (See slides and images below.)
As a reflection on the event, parents shared the value of having an opportunity to get to know their child's Advisor as well as meet other parents. We look forward to welcoming parents back on Monday, September 25th for an overview of Skyward and how we use it to communicate students' evidence of learning on each academic standard.
