IDEAS Senior-Parent Meeting offers overview of plans for the year and sets groundwork for students' futures

Please know that the intent of our Student-Parent Meetings is to inform families about the year’s timeline for College Readiness and to learn how we can better serve our students. Our Advisories are designed to give students tools and practice so they are ready to pursue their postsecondary plans. But all of us need to work together so these young people find the support and confidence they need to be successful.
The goal of this week’s meeting was to share needs and next steps, view the timeline for college tours and applications, and build understanding of the year as a bridge to each student’s future plans. These may include university, AmeriCorps, design school, tech school, 2-year college, fine arts colleges, military, culinary programs, apprenticeships and more. We want parents to know how we are helping students.
Parents also shared needs, hopes and suggestions. This input helps shape our College Readiness Program so we know we are on track with helping families. Some suggestions included learning about finances, which is already in the works, and parents working together to take students on college visits. Parents also learned what our Senior/Junior Institutes will cover: one-on-one help with applications, scholarships, FAFSA, essays and anything else students need. We will be offering evening and daytime opportunities for students and parents to come in, work together and receive assistance with the application process.
Please stay tuned for upcoming College Readiness Meetings and be sure to ask your seniors and juniors to share their questions and dreams for the future. By working together, families and our school community can guarantee “College Acceptance 100%” for all of our graduates, 2015 and beyond!
