An energetic admissions leader, Amy Vieth, of Paul Mitchell the School in Green Bay, shared information and even candy with IDEAS Academy students when she visited November 11.

The School offers two licenses: Barbering, which takes 7 months to complete, and Cosmetology, which takes 11 months and includes the barber training. Coursework involves both classroom and salon floor experience, including sale and retail skills. Graduates must pass their bar exams and will come away ready to work.

“You can graduate in the afternoon and start cutting that night,” Vieth said.

Admission requires a $50 fee, valid proof of age and a high school diploma. GPAs and test scores are not required. Tuition includes classes and training, all books and a complete tool kit for students to keep as their own to use professionally. Students attend classes from 9:00 to 4:30 every weekday. The School does not offer dorms, but does provide a list of recommended, reasonable housing in nearby apartments. Numerous clubs and teams, including charity events and runway shows, build community and experience.

“Have you heard of Multiple Intelligences?” Vieth asked the students. She explained how “everything is based on systems” and how learners need to know “the way they are smart.” Their ears perked up as she explained the different learning styles and teaching strategies used at Paul Mitchell, where a positive community of learners is the norm and where success is nurtured. Students asked many questions and made connections with their experiences at IDEAS.

Vieth’s visit was part of IDEAS Academy’s College Readiness Program, offering students information to help them make good decisions about their futures.
