Camp Étude
Camp Étude | High School | Fall 2017
Guided Work Time
Description: An opportunity is created for students to spend additional time to be successful and complete missing work in various courses. Students will have the extra support needed to demonstrate achievement and reach their goals.
FTC [FIRST Tech Challenge]
Description: It’s way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to play a floor game in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!” Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and can be programmed using a variety of languages. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. Each season concludes with regional Championships and an exciting FIRSTChampionship.
ACT Prep
Description: Students will practice and gain the skills needed to complete the ACT. They will review the English, math, science and reading sections. Students will practice, understand the scoring and learn new strategies to be successful test-takers.
GSA
Description: The Étude High School GSA mission is to create a safe social environment that welcomes all lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, queer/questioning and straight ally (LGTBQA) youth to come and talk about any issues concerning them. This provides a place to meet new people, hang out and have fun. We also want to provide awareness of different sexual and gender identities, linking homophobia with other oppressions, and advocating for equal treatment for youth of all sexual orientations, our GSA will help create a school environment free of homophobic sexual, verbal and physical harassment. Through acceptance at all our activities we will reduce isolation and bullying of LGTBQA youth at our school.
Cooking Club
Description: Students will explore the basics of culinary arts! Students will re-create recipes and experiment to design their own. (October 17th & November 14th Only)
OAK [Outdoor Adventure Konnection]
Description: Through OAK students will get the opportunity to answer the following questions: What should I carry on a hike?, What if I run out of water?, What can I eat from outside?, How do I cook with a fire?, How do I build a fire?, and How do I plan a hike? Throughout the semester, we will be planning, practicing, prepping and then going on adventures. We will practice survival skills like starting fires, cooking, and filtering water. We will plan hikes, biking opportunities, water sports using kayaks and ideally end the year with an overnight camping trip. Whether it is your first time doing something active outdoors or you have been in the woods all your life, this is a great way to develop healthy living and leadership skills and self-awareness.

Learn to do something amazing. Learn to make something you already do look amazing. Create a performance, or come practice your skills. No performing experience required to join! (If you have GWT or ACT prep, you are still welcome to attend the second half of the meeting. Whether you're a half-decent kazoo player, a struggling Rubik's Cubist, or an expert acrobat, whatever you can bring to the table, bring it!)
Tabletop Gamers Club

From acting to reading poetry and debating current events to orating, students will have the chance to build a plethora of skills and hone in on specific passions.
FLL [FIRST Lego League]
Description: Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams (up to 10 members, grades 4-8|Ages 9-14) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field. It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their discovery journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values.
Math Counts
Description: Students will be inspired as they participate in fun activities, integrating all abilities, levels and backgrounds within geometry and algebra. They will be empowered to reach their full potential in mathematics and find the supports to become lifelong math learners. They will collaborate in team-based learning, as they experience real-life problems with true meaning.
TerraCycle
Description:TerraCycle is a highly-awarded, international upcycling and recycling company that collects difficult-to-recycle packaging and products and repurposes the material into affordable, innovative products. TerraCycle is widely considered the world’s leader in the collection and reuse of non-recyclable, post-consumer waste. TerraCycle works with more than 100 major brands in the U.S. and 22 countries overseas to collect used packaging and products that would otherwise be destined for landfills. It repurposes that waste into new, innovative materials and products that are available online and through major retailers.
We will be using TerraCycle to collect materials that we normally throw away in school. These lists will be changing as the different "brigades" of products come up throughout the year. To start us off we are recycling beverage containers, chip bags, juice pouches, granola/energy bar wrappers. In the TerraCycle club we will be sorting, packaging and shipping the products we collect. In addition, we will make decisions on community partners, collecting data on what we collect and advertising this causes.
