We are excited to share that this past school year has been critical as we worked to prepare our students for a world that requires academic knowledge along with critical thinking skills, creative thinking skills, collaboration skills and communication skills. The development of a well-rounded curriculum requires a balance between learning and applying knowledge. We were able to take this step forward with our projects as a tool to have students synthesize the content they are learning.
As part of Wisconsin’s system of school accountability, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has released a school report card for all public schools in the state. The School Report Card is calculated using student performance and attendance data. A large portion of the data comes from the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE). Each school then receives an overall accountability index and rating. It’s important to note that the 0 to 100-accountability index is not a percent correct measurement, but rather is calculated by using scores from the Priority Areas and Student Engagement Indicators.
For the 2012-13 school year, we had a score of 74.3 – Exceeds Expectations. This shows a level of growth for us as last year we had a score of 71.3 – Meets Expectations. You can find the our report at: School Report Card Once you are on the DPI website, search either by district (Sheboygan Area). You will then see all schools and will need to scroll down to see ESAA.
The growth that we have seen in our students is a result of:
- An increased awareness of the needs of our students and providing support through interventions
- A wholistic approach to learning which includes an integration of core academics into project based learning
New this year, the Sheboygan Area School District also received a District Report Card. The District Report Card provides us with a broader, district-wide perspective that supplements the information found in each School Report Card. The School and District Report Cards are intended to help all districts get a better picture of how well they prepare students to graduate ready for career and college. Our district’s overall score is 68.9 – Meets Expectations. You may access the District Report Card at the above link.
The School Report Card is just one of the measures we will use, in combination with other school data, as part of our established process to determine in what areas we do well and where we need to focus improvement.
