We are excited to announce that ESAA has been awarded a Cellcom 2015 Green Gift grant. Dean of School, Susan Griffiths, and The Étude Group Board Member, Beth Carreno, wrote and submitted the grant, showing ESAA’s innovative and educational approach to environmental stewardship in our classroom learning. There were nearly fifty entries and the selection was competitive.
The program was launched in 2010 as a way to take proceeds from recycled cell phones and reinvest in the environment. On their website, Cellcom states, “Green Gifts complete the green cycle that starts with consumers being environmentally conscious and recycling their old handsets.” This year, Cellcom awarded a total of $33,000 in grants to various organizations, programs and projects across its service area that fit certain criteria relating to a community-based issue related to the environment, reducing negative impact, educational programming for children, or sustainability or wildlife preservation. At ESAA, each grade’s project not only puts the student at the center of their own learning, but helps them to see themselves as an integral part of his or her community and environment. We are very pleased to have our approach to learning recognized in this way.
Cellcom will present ESAA with a check for $1500 at a ceremony yet to be determined. Please stay tuned for more information!
