Raising Funds for our Students

Creating opportunities for our students that enrich the school day and expand learning beyond a traditional model has always been core to our schools. We believe that in order to create high quality learning for our students we need to get them outside of the traditional classroom, bring professionals into the classroom, and provide opportunities for students beyond our own schools. To help us accomplish this, we have created the Étude Sessions as a way to raise funds for our school while enriching our own community by bringing high quality music to our community. This week is will be a big week for the Étude Sessions and our ability to fund these opportunities for our students.

First of all, in two weeks we will be presenting our first jazz concert of the Étude Sessions. This show will feature Joe Magnarelli with The Dave Stoler Quartet at Paradigm. This show is on Friday, January 15th at 7:30 with beer and wine provided by 8th St, Ale Haus. Joe is a New York based trumpeter who plays in the top jazz clubs in New York City, teaches at the Juilliard School of Music, and has put out nine albums. This concert is going to be one of the premiere jazz events in our state! Tickets are going fast, but are still available at Paradigm Coffee & Music and online

On Monday at 11:00 tickets go on sale for the second half of season 3 of the Étude Sessions. We are very pleased to announce Haley Bonar on February 19th, Reina del Cid on March 18th, and Gospel Machine on April 15th. Each one of these bands has made their mark nationally and it is a real treat to have them coming for an intimate show at Paradigm. Tickets are available online and at Paradigm. Links for tickets are available on the links above. We are also offering a second chance season pass for $70 for all four of the shows including Dave Stoler and last three of the season. Please consider treating yourself to some great shows in 2016.

Lastly, we have a major announcement coming on Tuesday, January 5th. Stay tuned as we announce another major show for the Étude Sessions. To stay up to date on all of our announcements, please subscribe in the column on the left hand side of our page. This will add you to our email list so you are the first to know of upcoming announcements and the first to get tickets.

To date, we have raised over $45,000 for our students. These funds will provide us the opportunity to bring professionals into our building for residencies, take our students to colleges, provide field experiences for our students, and provide scholarships for our students to attend summer camps at colleges. These experiences are essential for a well rounded education. I appreciate your support in the past and look forward to enjoying some great shows in the new year!

As we head into Thanksgiving weekend, I want to wish everyone a playful Thanksgiving and encourage everyone to take time for a little free play. Free play is cited has helping build resilient children in a recent article titled, "How Free Play Can Define Kids’ Success". The article points out that creative play can help our kids develop resiliency by developing:

First Day Reflections

First Day Reflections Thumbnail

If you set up the right conditions in a school amazing things can happen. Today was one of those days at Mosaic. This year, we opened the school year with mini projects. The remarkable thing I observed today was our students’ ability to provide insightful observations, work collaboratively, and present their ideas in front of others. If today was any indication of the year we will have, it will be a great year for learning using the creative process.

Creating Space and Time to Establish a School Culture

Creating Space and Time to Establish a School Culture Thumbnail

The first week of school is an opportunity to convey our beliefs and expectations not only through our words, but by what we do. Since the inception of the Étude High School, we have put a great deal of time and thought into how we start the school year - involving students in the processes of creating our school culture and engaging in the intellectual work we expect of them. It is through these actions that we initiate a strong school culture and an in depth intellectual culture.

Welcome Back Night

Welcome Back Night Thumbnail

Summer learning looks different for all of us, and as part of The Étude Group schools it is exciting to see how each experience of observing, playing, wondering, creating, and exploring that happens in the summer will enrich learning this school year. We hope to start sharing these stories and reconnecting at our "Welcome Back Night."

We are always working to increase our communication with you, our families and the larger community we serve. You might have noticed changes in the appearance of our website and in the flow of information from our blogs to social media this year. We have been working with a local design firm, Dynamic, to update our online presence and make it easier to communicate all that happens within our schools. Our approach is to publish information to blogs that will automatically be posted to our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
